# Named-Account ABM: Build and Prioritise a Signal-Led Account List: editable worksheet

All worked records are illustrative. Replace assumptions with your own reviewed inputs.

## Select evidence your buyers recognise

Choose the signal source for your market: shipment records for import activity, job postings for hiring, permit filings for projects, or observed technology changes for system adoption. Record the source, collection date and coverage limits. None proves budget, timing or willingness to switch suppliers by itself.

## Five-account selection example

Fictional accounts and observations. Replace the illustrative dates and evidence with verified records before any outreach.

| Account | Source/date and observation | Fit / uncertainty | Owner and next step |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Cedar Foods | Shipment record, 1 Sep: new supplier | Fits product/geography; reason for change unknown | AE: verify purchasing responsibility |
| Birch Software | Careers page, 2 Sep: RevOps role | Fits segment; hiring may replace a leaver | SDR: read the role scope |
| Elm Logistics | Technology scan, 3 Sep: CRM change | Fits size; scan may be stale | RevOps: verify installation evidence |
| Willow Manufacturing | Permit filing, 4 Sep: site expansion | Fits industry; project timing uncertain | AE: check project status |
| Oak Health | Public filing, 5 Sep: new project | Geography outside current coverage | GTM owner: hold, record exclusion reason |

Prioritise the strength and relevance of the evidence alongside ICP fit and team capacity. Keep a reviewed list for the agreed campaign cycle, with a monthly evidence check. Allow documented exceptions for disqualification, ownership changes or material new facts; do not rebuild the list simply because a campaign has not yet produced a meeting.

## Write a brief sales can use

For Cedar: observed fact = a new supplier appears in a dated shipment record. Hypothesis = the sourcing team may be reviewing requirements. Unknown = whether this relates to the problem we solve. Next step = verify the category and responsible buyer.

An illustrative opener: “I saw a recent supplier change in your shipment records. Is sourcing consistency something your team is reviewing, or is that unrelated to your current priorities?” Use this only when the record supports the observation. Keep the hypothesis a question.

Map the relevant buying roles and coordinate contact ownership before adding channels. Match the effort to account value and evidence. A shared account brief should inform email, sales conversations and any supporting paid activity.

## Define progress in the CRM

Visits, replies and multiple contacts engaged can inform prioritisation. They do not create an opportunity. An opportunity requires your agreed sales qualification criteria, an owner and a recorded next step. Report meetings, accepted opportunities and revenue separately from activity.

## Check the economics

Illustrative planning assumptions: 20 accounts × 2 research hours × GBP 50/hour = GBP 2,000 research cost. If total programme cost is GBP 5,000 and it produces 4 accepted opportunities, cost per accepted opportunity is GBP 1,250. These are assumptions, not a forecast. Include tooling, media, sales time and fulfilment costs before deciding whether the programme is affordable.

The template includes a blank sales brief and change log. Review actual costs and outcomes before expanding the list.
